smack it up, flip it, rub it down, oh noooo....

ok, so this might not be the greatest song lyric of all time, but listening to new edition spin-off bell biv devoe just takes me to that special place.

i would like to invite you (anyone who may actually still read this from time to time) to share you favorite song lyrics with us. sometimes these lines just cut you, right to the bone. sometimes they are hilarious. sometimes they bring tears to your eyes. whatever the case, i would love it if you shared them.

here's the line that i heard recently that inspired this post:

“I spend my nights in the reservoir, saying prayers for the passing cars…”
--Johnathon Rice, "Break So Easily"

sweet, cory. i was about to post just the lyrics of jeff buckley's satisfied mind again, but your post has saved my readers from an onslaught of new posts.

two songs (in full) come to mind, both courtesy of jeff buckley, though i'll only list a few lines here.

from lover, you should've come over - and i don't care how "girly" this makes me; really the whole song is incredible, but the image of this is so tender and so sweet:

"it's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder"

and from jeff's satisfied mind:

"How many times have you heard someone say,
'If I had money, I would do things my way.'
But little they know, that it's so hard to find
one rich man in ten, with a satisfied mind."

both of those are easily in my top 5 favorite songs of all time.

oh, but man, cory, i could totally go off on this one. and i think i will ... but on my own blog :)

I don't really have any lyrics as I am like the kids and only listen to the music and not the words but I want you to know I am a faithful reader and always enjoy your thoughts. See you soon.

When I read "bell biv devoe" I thought about the line from one of my favourite jr.high songs. "don't trust a big butt and smile. That girl is poison."

jared, that's really one of the most depressing lyrics i've ever heard. that even tops my favorite stuck-in-depression lyric of all time from ben harper's walk away:

they say if you love somebody / then you have got to set them free / but i would rather be locked to you / than live in this pain and misery

but i'll end on a happy lyric note. every road trip i've ever taken has been made EVEN better when "where the green grass grows" gets some air time:

Well I'm from a map dot
A stop sign on a black top
I caught the first bus I could hop from there
But all this glitter is gettin' dark
There's concrete growin' in the city park
I don't know who my neighbors are
And there's bars on the corners and bars on my heart

praise the lord for tim mcgraw's songwriters.

This has been fun to think about--I don't have a great memory for lyrics but here's a few I like and a few for laughs...

Blur, "Tender:
Tender is the ghost, the ghost I love the most/Hiding from the sun, waiting for the night to come/Tender is my heart, I'm screwing up my life/Oh lord I need to find someone who can heal my mind

Feist, "Mushaboom":
We'll collect the moments one by one/I guess that's how the future's done

Billy Joel (yes, Billy Joel), "And So It Goes":
So I would choose to be with you/That's if the choice were mine to make/But you can make decisions too/And you can have this heart to break

OTR, "Latter Days":
What a beautiful piece of heartache/This has all turned out to be

Bree Sharp, "David Duchovny"(really this whole song is just fun to sing):
Sitting like a mindless clone/wishing he would tap my phone/Just to hear the breath of the man, the myth, the monotone

And the pinnacle of all lyrics of my youth:
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
The right stuff
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
The right stuff

Cory,

Funny, but I read your post and coulnd't think of anything, so I clicked away. But, like whatever amount of time later, I come back to find all of these crazy comment additions! Hilarious and cool. Nice work on giving people something they could relate to/share. And I check in on your blog too. Thanks for posting.
